About Me
My name is Lawren Kincaid but most people call me Kiki. I am from Massachusetts but went to high school and college in Missouri and Illinois. I graduated from Principia Upper School in 2018 and from Principia College in 2022 with a BA in Mass Communication and International Relations with minors in Business Administration and Economics. I value growing as a global citizen through travel and experience. I am an eager learner who takes pride in her own education and strives to empower others to do the same. I am an advocate for women's rights, environmental education and climate change, and am excited to launch my career. For three years I wrote and edited for my school newspaper, The Principia Pilot and am published in the local newspaper, The Alton Telegraph. I have worked several years as a server in fast paced settings and have worked/volunteered in event planning for majority of my life. Below are some of my key work experiences.
Social Media and Marketing Internship
During the summer of 2021 I was a social media and marketing intern for Simply Dwell, a family owned home staging company in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. I did several projects including a marketing schedule, social media content development, print marketing materials, business cards, Facebook ads, and more. I made Tiktok, Instagram and Facebook posts and created a fully organized informative OneNote to give step by step information on where, how, and what to do for their marketing after my internship was complete.
Alongside my internship, I was introduced to a group of people devoted to supporting a community that was subject to redlining in downtown Jacksonville. The community struggled immensely and is categorized as a severely low-income area. We created a non-profit group called Warriors of Fire.I created a business plan, marketing content and led team meetings. The mission of this group is to renovate a small church in the community into a hub that supports the growth and safety of those who live near it.
Public Affairs Conference
As a sophomore at Principia College I joined the executive board of the Public Affairs Conference. Principia College's PAC is the longest running student led conference in the nation. I was on the community engagement committee working on marketing to bring attendees to the conference and make the conference known. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the conference in 2020 was cancelled. As a junior and senior in the following years I became a co-director for PAC and led two successful executive boards to two excellent conferences.
In 2021 our conference theme was "Engage with Perspectives, Develop a New Lens" which focused on the importance of civil discourse. One of our featured speakers was Heather McGhee, American political commentator and strategist and author of "The Sum of Us. What Racism Costs Everyone and How we can Prosper Together."
In 2022 our conference theme was "Social Media, Balancing Reality in a Digital World," focused on how social media impacts our views, beliefs, and mental health. The image below showcases our four individual speakers one of which is Bailey Parnell who is the found and CEO of SkillsCamp, a company focused on helping us better understand the impact social media has on our mental health and teaching key skills for better social media use. In 2016 she was in the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada.
